In the case of Lewis Hamilton, this is why the German national anthem is played after the British one – for Mercedes – even if no German is on the podium.
Max Verstappen plays the Dutch and Austrian anthems for his home country and the one in which Red Bull is registered even though he is based in the UK in Milton Keynes.
After the distribution of national anthems and trophies, F1 drivers will celebrate on the podium with champagne or sparkling wine in some countries.
F1 podium music
After the national anthems, the drivers generally sprinkle the sparkling with a piece of classical music.
The podium music used in F1 is the overture to Georges Bizet’s opera, Carmen.
Bizet is a French composer who died in 1875, after having written Carmen shortly before his death.
It entered the classical canon and became one of the most recognized works of the genre.
