Weekend ticket: music, pottery, paintings and monologues for Mother’s Day weekend | New

This weekend, mothers, fathers and families have a lot to do to celebrate the special people in their lives.

Friday at 5 p.m., in downtown Newberry, Astwood Park, a free outdoor mini-jam session is hosted by Newberry Opera House and The Well Drinkers. Bring lawn chairs. This is part of a series of First Friday concerts.

Earth into Art kicks off at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Arts Center of Greenwood. More than 15 local potters are participating in this sale, sponsored by Greenwood Area Studio Potters. Learn about the growth of the clay arts scene in this area and participate in a community tile project to benefit the Greenwood Soup Kitchen. Also at the Center des Arts, the inauguration of the new exhibition of digital paintings by Marianne Lenti, “La femme”.

Nearby at the Greenwood Community Theater, two performances each, at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., Saturday, by the group Greenwood Corps of the Salvation Army and monologues based on famous Salvationist Joe the Turk. Tickets cost $ 10 at the door.

Also Saturday, 9 am to noon, a car and coffee cruise with the Emerald City Antique Automobile Club of America. It’s in the Hampton Place Plaza Shoppes, near Fat Daddy’s BBQ. Free entry. Meet local car enthusiasts while sampling food and door prizes.

At 8pm today, the sweet sounds of Pope and Bert will be at TW Boons. Sometimes this group is a duo and sometimes a trio.

Friday at 6:30 p.m. Justin Corley plays Flynn’s on Maxwell, followed by LC Branch in Montague at 7 p.m. and Lockaby and Eddy at Howard’s on Main at 8 p.m.

At 7 p.m. Saturday, Granger and Nic are playing Good Times Brewing. Also Saturday at 7 p.m., Mojo on Max, at Jammin ‘in the Alley, next to the Belmont Inn in Abbeville.

On Sunday, for all moms, LC Branch will play from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at South Bend Winery in Greenwood. Plus, moms get 10% off their bills.

Also on Sundays at 5 p.m., Keith Gregory plays the lakeside tiki bar at Harris Landing Restaurant on Greenwood Lake.
