Ian is a member of Carlisle United FC, Sunset Suite Slimming World which he attends every Thursday.
He said: âObviously the starting point of any weight loss journey is that you want to do it on your own.
âThe support and guidance Emma gives in her groups makes the whole process much easier. I reached my goal of 7kg weight loss in two years and have now maintained it for almost two years. .
âWithout the class, I would almost certainly be back where I started. Even during the lockdown, the virtual bands were there to keep the motivation going. And the best part about the band is it’s a lot of fun. “
Ian has gone from 22 stone 1 lb to 14 stone 13 lb and is extremely proud of his achievement and joined the group led by Emma Davies at Carlisle in 2018.
He continued, “I’m proud to be a loser when I feel so good, I feel like a new man since I lost weight – in fact, I look so different than people. that i haven’t seen myself in a while often can’t believe i’m the same person.
âI have to say though, it’s the change inside that has been the biggest – I’m happier, healthier and a lot more confident now.
âMy weight has impacted so many areas of my life, from having trouble finding clothes that I like to fit, to the inability to perform simple everyday tasks without feeling tired and breathless. Before I lost weight I just existed, now I am full of life and I can do so much more. “
Ian’s weight was also putting a strain on his health and he felt that “everything was a real effort”.
He added: “I was nervous when I first walked through my group doors; I was embarrassed about my size and was afraid to be the bigger person and the only man.
“However, I didn’t need to worry, everyone was so friendly especially my consultant Emma and I were so relieved when I found out that my weight was confidential – I had had visions of having to tell everyone how much I weighed.
âI made so many friends in the group and honestly I don’t think I could have done it without their support every week. We all support each other with recipes and advice and if someone is having difficulty we are always here to remind us how far we have come.
Ian followed Slimming World’s Food Optimization Eating Plan and swapped sandwiches, pies, fries and pizza for pasta, vegetables, fruit and omelets.
Ian lost a total of 7 pounds and went from a height of 44 “to a waist of 34/36”. He is also more active nowadays and regularly plays squash and also rides a bicycle.
Emma, ââwho runs Sunset Suite Slimming World at Carlisle United FC every Thursday, said: âI feel so privileged to have played a part in Ian’s transformation. Watching him blossom every week has been wonderful and I hope his success inspires others in Carlisle who would like to lose weight and become happier and healthier to take action. There is always a warm welcome awaiting you at Slimming World. “
